Fighting Koalas Overpower SCAD Bees
The Fighting Koalas basketball team defeated the Savannah College of Art and Design Bees at the Godbold Center on Monday, December 4, 2006, at 6:30 pm, with a score of 68-58.

The Bees capitalized on the Fighting Koalas' four turnovers in the early minutes of the first half and jumpted out to a 7-0 lead. Senior guard Donee Taylor scored first for the Fighting Koalas, but the Bees held thier lead and were up by ten with six minutes to play in the half. The Koalas came roaring back with unanswered field goals by juniors Denitra Parker and Sarah Scoggins, and senior forward, Ashley Watson's pair of buckets cut the Bees' lead to one. Sophomore guard Jakelia Davis hit a field goal to give the Koalas a one point lead, but foul shots tied the score at the half 29-29.

The Fighting Koalas took an early lead in the second half on Jakelia Davis's second field goal of the night, but the Bees evened the score at 36 tehn took their first lead of the half with 15 minutes to play. After battling back and forth, the Fighting Koalas pulled ahead with eight minutes left to play on a goal by Scoggins and never looked back. They stretched their lead to ten and ended the game with their third victory of the season.

The leading scorer for Columbia College was Ashley Watson, who had 19 points and 13 rebounds; sophomore center Jocelyn Bronson also earned a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds. For the Bees, Alexis Aubuchon and Shannon Bedward each scored 11 points, and Kandas Coates pulled down 13 rebounds.

The Fighting Koalas travel to Cleveland, Tennessee on Thursday, December 7, to face SSAC opponent Lee University. Game time is set for 7:00 pm.
