| Columbia College Stuns Brewton-Parker |
It was an exciting night in the Godbold Center as the Fighting Koalas beat the visiting Lady Barons of Brewton-Parker College at the buzzer.
Columbia College and Brewton Parker battled close all night Thursday. Brewton-Parker took the lead into half 33-25 behind the hot shooting of Filita Kirkendoll. Kirkendoll dropped three three-pointers in the last five minutes of the first half and went four of four from the free throw line.
The second half provided more excitement as the Koalas fought back to tie the game in the final minutes. Brewton-Parker had the final shot with 8 seconds on the clock and the game tied at 50 a piece. Lesley Gadson came up with her seventh steal on the night with only 4 seconds remaining, threw the ball the length of the court to a streaking Portia Jackson who made the winning basket at the sound of the buzzer.
Merissa Witherspoon scored a game and career high 16 points to lead the Koalas. Witherspoon also led both teams with a game high 7 rebounds. Gadson, who leads the SSAC in steals, led both teams with 7.
The Koalas hope to continue their exciting play as they host Southern Poly Saturday at 2:00. |
