| Fighting Koalas Stun the Running Hornets |
The Columbia College Fighting Koalas took on the Running Hornets from Southern Polytechnic State University on Saturday, February 3, 2007 at the Godbold Gym, and won. The Koalas started off slowly, making only 4 field goals for 29 attempts in the first half giving the Hornets a 30-13 lead at halftime. The Koalas held the Hornets to four points in the first ten minutes of play in the second half and scored 14 unanswered points to bring the score within three. The Hornets held onto the lead but were eventually overcome by the Fighting Koalas' tough defense and solid freethrow shooting.
Junior forward Denitra Parker led the Fighting Koalas in scoring with 14 total points, 8 of which were made from the freethrow line, and added 8 rebounds. Senior forward, Ashley Watson, added 11 points and 14 rebounds, while freshman guard Shekema Green contributed 6 rebounds and 9 pionts. Shailee Sztern was the high scorer for the Running Hornets with 12 total points.
