Davenport Homers Past Emmanuel

COLUMBIA, S.C. - Sophomore Kacie Davenport hit two home runs to propel Columbia past Emmanuel College in a SSAC double header 10-0, 5-4.  The conference sweep moves the Fighting Koalas to 2-2 in the SSAC and 3-3 overall.

Kelsey Nichols threw her first shutout of the season in game 1.  Nichols struck out 4, while giving up no runs and 8 hits in 5IP.  Columbia's bats stayed hot, knocking 13 hits in 5 innings of play.  Brittany Raneri and Brittany Bendt were each 3-of-3 from the plate.  Columbia jumped to a 2-0 first inning lead and then blew the lead open with a 7 run third inning.

The momentum was quickly reversed in game 2 when the visiting Emmanuel College broke out to a 4-0 first inning lead.  Junior Ashley Darden took the mound in the second inning and shut down the visitors to allow the dramatic comeback.  Darden recorded her first win, spreading out 3 hits and 1 walk over 5.2 innings.   Davenport knocked in 3 runners including a solo bomb over the left field fence.

Columbia College will turn around on Saturday to host Southern Wesleyan University starting at 1 pm.
