Softball Slips in Home Opener

COLUMBIA, S.C. - Columbia College stumbled in their first game in the SSAC when they took on conference champion Brenau University.  Game one saw Anna Maness no hit the Koalas in a five inning, 12-0 victory.  The Fighting Koalas settled down in game two, but were defeated again 5-2.

Freshman pitcher Kelsey Nichols held the conference champions close in game two all the way into the 7th inning.  The Koalas trailed 3-2 before entering the final frame, but Brenau added two runs in the 7th to hold on 5-2.  The defense that was shaky in the first game settled down and committed only one error in game two.

Brianna Huckabee scored the first run for Columbia in the bottom of the second when Michele Miler was struck by a pitch, forcing home the first run of the season.  Miller also scored Columbia's second run in the 5th inning.

Columbia will travel to SSAC member Brewton-Parker College for a double header on Friday, February 26.
