Koalas Struggle in Final Weekend

Koalas Struggle in Final Weekend

The Columbia College softball team took the field for their last back-to-back-to-back series.  The Koalas played double headers on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, but were defeated in each series.

Columbia hosted Faulkner University on Friday and Auburn-Montgomery on Saturday.  Unfortunately, Faulkner’s bats were dialed in as they knocked in 16 hits in a 14-1 victory in game 1, and mustered 9 hits and 6 runs in game 2.  Columbia offense could not get any pressure on Faulkner in game 2, losing 6-0.  Saturday saw more offensive struggles.  AUM no hit the Koalas in a 10-0 victory in game 1, followed up by a 9-2 win over Columbia in game 2.  Columbia had to finish the weekend with a road series against Truett-McConnell College in Cleveland, GA.  The offense got going in game one with a home run by Samantha Santoro, but Columbia dropped the double header 9-5 and 11-0.

Columbia was hit hard by injuries in the last two weeks of play and will hope to heal up before the conference tournament.  Columbia finished their first collegiate season as the 7th seed entering the conference tournament.

The SSAC softball tournament begins play on Thursday, April 28, at the Golden Park Complex in Columbus, GA.  Tournament play will be preceded by a sports banquet on Wednesday, April 28.
