Softball Completes Season at SSAC Tournament
COLUMBUS, GA - The Columbia College softball team, in its first year of competition, was knocked out of the SSAC tournament by Brewton-Parker College, 6-3. In the first round of the double elimination tournament, Columbia fell to #10 Shorter College, 9-0.
The Koalas grabbed a 3-2 lead in the top of the 3rd inning. Brittany Bendt and Michele Miller scored on a double from Samantha Santoro. Sarah Gibson singled in Santoro to give Columbia the 3-2 lead. The Koalas went into the bottom of the 6th inning tied 3-3, but Brewton-Parker capitalized on a walk, two hits and error to go ahead 6-3. Kelsey Nichols threw 6 innings and gave up only 2 earned runs, but Brewton-Parker took advantage of defensive miscues to score 4 unearned runs in route to the victory.
Columbia (8-22, 9-33) finished their first collegiate season ranked 7th in the SSAC and qualifying for the 8 team tournament.
