Softball Swept by Tornados

COLUMBIA, S.C. - The Columbia College softball team returned to Sutton Softball field today after a three week stretch on the road. The Fighting Koalas faced the Brevard College Tornados behind the pitching of freshman, Alexis Lucas. The tornados came out strong at their first at bat scoring one run on a sacrifice fly. Columbia answered back in the bottom of the 1st  inning when Brittany Koester doubled to left field. Junior Kacie Davenport's batting 4th in Columbia's lineup doubled to centerfield and Koester rounded third to score.

Brevard took the lead in the third inning but Columbia's Brittany Barr answered back in the bottom of the fourth with a two run shot over the center field wall giving Columbia the lead 3-2.  The Fighting Koalas found themselves with bases loaded with two outs in the top of the 6th inning resulting in a three run inning for Brevard. Sophomore, Christen Bucy came into relieve Lucas and finished the game for Columbia losing 3-6 to Brevard.

The second game of the series saw Columbia coming from behind again and again. Brittany Koester had an impressive game offensively having 5 at bats, 4 runs, 3hits, and 4 RBI's. Columbia continued to answer to Brevard's consistence offense and tied the game at 9-9 after the 5th inning. Brevard's second baseman, Kayla Dorsey, homered to left on a 2-1 count putting pressure on the Fighting Koalas going into the 7th inning. Columbia couldn't produce in the bottom of the 7th inning losing 9-10 at home to the Brevard College tornados.
