Columbia Softball Goes 1-2 in AAC Tournament

KINGSPORT, TN - Columbia College softball finished their 2011-2012 season this week in Kingsport, TN grabbing their first ever post season win and finishing out the tournament 1-2.

Columbia started the AAC tournament against AAC conference opponent Bluefield Lady Rams. Eigth Columbia (S.C.) bested ninth-seed Bluefield, 7-2, in a tournament play-in game. Shortstop Crystal Hughes led the Fighting Koloas in the win, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored in the lead-off spot. With the loss, Bluefield was knocked out of the tournament.

In the fifth and final game of the day, top-seeded Milligan controlled Columbia in a 9-1, five inning victory. Milligan's Camille Olvey hit a grand slam home run in the win, while pitcher Chancli Connaster scattered three hits, giving up a run in five innings of work.

The Fighting Koalas last game of the tournament came today as they faced the Lady Bulldogs of Union. Union got off to an early lead batting in 6 runs. Columbia answered back as newcomer Callie Wayne knocked in 4 runs with a grandslam in the 4th inning. The Fighting Koalas came up short as Union went on to win 6-4, closing out Columbia's season.
