Columbia, SC – The Fighting Koala softball team defeated the Lady Panthers of Claflin University today winning both games of the double header: 6-2 and 11-3 .
Columbia got off to a rocky start as errors helped Claflin grab the early lead 1-0 even with newcomer Erin Walker posting 6 strike outs until she was relieved by veteran pitcher Lindsey Knipp. The Fighting Koalas finally broke open the score in the bottom of the 3rd inning and closed out the game in the top of the 7th only allowing one more run to score taking the front end of the double header 6-2.
Game two of the double header was an offensive display for Columbia. In the first three innings alone The Fighting Koalas had home runs by: Rachael Lembke and Michelle Miller. On the mound, Brittany Barr struggled in the top of the 4th allowing 3 runs to be batted in. Lindsey Knipp came in to close out the game at the top of the 6th. Columbia went onto finish Claflin with back to back doubles from Lembke and Miller, ending the game 11-3.
The Fighting Koalas take on West Virginia Tech tomorrow, (as the game got moved up due to inclement weather) the double header is scheduled for 3:00 and 5:00 p.m.
