Ortiz Signs On with Columbia College Softball

COLUMBIA, S.C. - Head Softball Coach James Morrison announced the addition of transfer Alyssa Ortiz for 2013. Ortiz is currently attending Brevard Community College in Florida.

Ortiz is originally from Palm Bay, FL where she graduated from Bayside High School. During her high school career Ortiz was the four year starting catcher for the softball program and was named captain her junior and senior year. While at Bayside Ortiz was named the the Cape Coast Conference team as an honorable mention.

As a student-athlete Ortiz was an honors student and was awarded honor roll while attending Bayside. When she began her career at Brevard Community College she continued her success in the classroom by making Dean's List. Her athletic career with the BCC Titans led her to honorable mention for their conference this past season.

Assistant Coach Tatjana Matthews commented on Ortiz joining the program, "Alyssa is a phenominal kid and an amazing defensive catcher. After watching her compete in 4 games I only saw one passed ball. She is going to be a great addition to our program."
