Softball Celebrates Seniors
COLUMBIA, S.C. - This past Saturday, Columbia College Athletics celebrated 10 senior members of the Fighting Koala softball program: Jordan Atkinson, Crystal Hughes, Britney Hinson, Christen Bucy, Sadonna Smith, Michelle Miller, Kateland McDaniel, Samantha Santoro, Lauren Moore, and Andrea Coker.
Jordan Atkinson came to Columbia College in 2009 from James F. Byrnes High School. Jordan is originally from Woodruff, SC and has competed for the Fighting Koalas for 4 seasons behind the plate. While at Columbia Jordan has competed in 125 games, had 280 at bats, 29 RBIs, 356 Put outs, and hit her first career home run this season. Jordan has been named to the conference all-academic team three years and was the reciepient of the Erma Kizer Rushton Scholarship Award. Jordan plans on graduating in May with a degree in middle level education.
Crystal Hughes came to Columbia from Hemingway, SC in 2009. Crystal has competed for Columbia in 79 games and has a career batting avg of .329. Crystal has 2 career home runs and 35 RBIs. Defensively Crystal has a fielding percentage of .917 with 136 Put Outs and 142 assits. Crystal plans on graduating next year with a degree in middle level education.
Britney Hinson came to Columbia College in 2009 from Airport High School. A native of Columbia, Brittany has competed for Columbia in 46 games-has a batting avg of .177 and a career fielding percentage of .921. Britney plans on graduating in May with a degree in Child and Family Studies with an emphasis in early care.
Christen Bucy came to Columbia College from Dillon, SC after she graduated from Pee Dee Academy in 2009. While at Columbia Christen has competed and tallied 111 at bats and pitched a total of over 20 innings. Christen plans on graduating in may with a degree in Elementary Education.
Sadonna Smith joined The Fighting Koalas softball program in 2009 from Myrtle Beach, SC. Sadonna has competed for Columbia primarily as an infielder and will graduate in may with a degree in contractual studies with an emphasis in Health and Welness.
Michelle Miller came to Columbia college in 2009 from Little Rock, SC. While at Columbia Michelle has competed in 103 games had 217 at bats and currently has a career batting avg of .258. In the field Michelle has a fielding percentange of .884 with 59 put outs. Michelle has also been named to the AAC all Academic team back to back years in 2012 and 2013, she also serves as one of this years captains. Michelle plans on graduating in may with a degree in Early Childhood Education.
Kateland McDaniel joined the Fighting Koalas softball program after graduating from Carolina Academy in Johnsonville, SC. While at Columbia she has competed in 73 games and had 58 at bats. Defensively Kateland had 20 put outs and a career fielding percentage of .840. She plans on graduating in May with a degree in Business Adminstration
Samantha Santoro came to Columbia from Myrtle Beach, SC in 2009. Since arriving at Columbia, Sam has competed in 104 games, tallied 26 RBI’s, 6 Home Runs with 290 at bats. From the mound Sam has pitched 141 innings and maintained a fielding percentage of .892. She was named to the SSAC all-academic team and was honored with the Columbia College Softball Coach’s award in 2009. She plans on graduating in May with a degree in Biology.
Lauren Moore joined the Columbia College Athletic program as a transfer from University of South Carolina Sumter in the Spring of 2011. While at Columbia Lauren has competed for Columbia predominately in the infield in 48 games and maintains a career fielding percentage of .871. Offensively Lauren has been at the plate 111 times and has a current batting average of .373. Lauren has also been honored on the 2013 AAC All-Academic Team, She plans on graduating in may with a degree in Public Health Science.
Andrea Coker came to Columbia in 2009 from Manning, SC. She has competed for Columbia in 32 games and has a career fielding percentage of .833. Andrea has been named to the conference all Academic team every year and was the reciepient of the Dr. Laurie B. Hopkins award in 2010. She plans on graduatin in may with a degree in Biology.
