COLUMBIA, S.C. - The Fighting Koala softball program kicked off its 2013 spring season with games against USC Lancaster and Anderson University. Columbia College is also projected to finish seventh in the AAC pre-season coaches poll.
The Appalachain Athletic Conference coaches pre-season poll expects Reinhardt University to come out on top once again and grab the AAC title. The Lady Eagles received five of the 10 first-place votes for a total of 74 points. Tennessee Wesleyan collected two first-place votes and 69 points to come in second, while Milligan got one first-place vote and 64 points to land third. The trio all finished with identical 14-4 conference marks in 2012 to finish as regular-season tri-champions. Columbia was ranked seventh ahead of Point, Montreat, and St. Andrews.
The Fighting Koalas played their first junior varsity double header against USC Lancaster on February 1st and took both games. The softball program welcomes members of the junior varsity as well as JV head coach, Tatjana Matthews. The next JV double header is Wednesday, February 27th at USC Sumter.
The Columbia College softball program kicked off their official 2013 season against Anderson University this past Sunday. The Fighting Koalas battled in the front end of the double header losing in the last inning 9-8. The second game proved difficult for Columbia as the Lady Trojans went onto win 5-2.
Columbia looks ahead to SSAC member Emmanuel College this weekend and faces off against Division II Conference Carolinas member Coker College on Sunday, February 17th in Hartsville, SC.
