Burns Announces Recruiting Class
Head basketball coach Stephen Burns announced the addition of ten new players for the 2009-10 season. The recruiting class marks seven talented freshmen, one red-shirt freshman, and two transfer students.
Debrea Barber is a 5-3 freshman point guard, from Rock Hill, SC who redshirted last season. Barber ran the point at South Pointe HS and should add depth and additional options for the Fighting Koalas at the point guard spot.
Nikki Craig is a 5-9 freshman forward from Fairfield Central HS in Winnsboro, SC. Craig is a hard worker and is very coachable. She averaged for the Griffins and will have an opportunity to work her way into the rotation. Nikki has chosen Biology as a major.
Cierra Hinton is a freshman from Dutch Fork HS in Irmo,
SC. At 5-9 Hinton is athletic and versatile enough to play
several positions. She played the forward position for the
Lady Silver Foxes but could see some time at the guard position
this season.
Whitney Mitchell is a 6-1 freshman center from Conway, SC. Mitchell did not play her senior year at Conway HS but did participate in track. As a junior, she we a key inside presence for the Lady Tigers and should provide the Koalas with added size in the post. Whitney will major in Biology.
Arielle Nichols is a 5-6 shooting guard from Land o Lakes HS in Florida. She is a solid ball handler with a nice outside shot and should provide additional perimeter shooting for the Koalas. Arielle is majoring in Biology.
Krystal Morissette is from Berkmar HS in Gwinnett, GA. At 5-10 her primary position was shooting guard for the Lady Patriots. Morissette is a very athletic and versatile player who is a tough competitor. She will help the Fighting Koalas be more competitive on both ends of the court. Krystal has chosen Psychology as a major
Patrisha and Natasha Blackmore are
sisters from Mansfield, TX. Patrisha is a 5-9 forward who
played her senior season at Mansfield Timberview HS. She is a
physical player with solid offensive game and should compete for
time at the forward position. Natasha is a 5-10 forward
transferring from Allen County Community College in Kansas.
Another versatile player who can score inside and out will be able
to contribute where needed.
Victoria Gathers is a 5-8 guard who last played at Tuskegee University. Gathers enrolled at Columbia last year and will be a senior competing in her final season of eligibility. She brings experience and leadership ability to the program. A solid defender and capable scorer, Victoria should compete for playing time immediately.
Krystle Remigio is a 5-0 guard transferring from Savannah College of Art & Design (SCAD). She plays with great energy and is a very capable scorer and defender.
