Basketball Signs Two

COLUMBIA, S.C. - Columbia College’s basketball program welcomed the addition of two players to the 2011-12 roster.  Signing with the Koalas were Amber Poston, a senior post from Hannah-Pamplico High School in Pamplico, SC, and Coretta Johnson, who joins the team following an accomplished career at Timberland High School in St. Stephens, SC.

While playing at Hannah-Pamplico High, Poston provided key support for the Lady Raiders, whose successful season earned them a spot in the Class A State tournament. Poston averaged nearly a triple double her senior year with an impressive 15 points, 12 rebounds, and 8 steals per game. She also shot a solid 76% from the foul line and averaged 4 blocks. Poston will graduate from Hannah-Pamplico High and looks forward to contributing to the Fighting Koalas’ program immediately.

“Amber’s exceptional senior season is the building block for what she will accomplish at Columbia College. She has an unmatched spirit and work ethic that will allow her to excel individually but more importantly, provide a great lift to her teammates on and off the court,” said Coach Audas. Audas noted the Poston’s superior performance in the classroom was a key quality as well, adding, “It’s exactly what our program seeks to build – disciplined students-athletes that succeed first in the classroom and second on the court.”

Coach Audas signed Johnson on April 8th, 2011, along with Johnson’s mother and Timberland’s coaching staff there to support her. The 6’0” forward led the Lady Wolves to the AA State Championship game where she scored the first points of the game on her team’s way to a 55-48 overtime victory. Johnson served as team captain and was a leading scorer and rebounder for the team.

Audas commented, “Coretta brings with her an infectious positive attitude and work ethic. Coupled with her solid post game and exemplary performance in the classroom, Coretta is truly the ideal student-athlete. We are thrilled to have her join Columbia College’s basketball program.” While at Columbia College, Johnson plans to major in secondary education with an emphasis in mathematics.
