Basketball Signs Smith

COLUMBIA, S.C.- Columbia College’s basketball program announces the signing of Taylor Smith, a senior post player from Independence High School in Charlotte, NC. Smith officially joined the Koalas’ roster on Friday April 15, said head coach Maria Audas. Smith’s mom Diane, Independence HS coach Natalie Davis and Smith’s AAU coach Fred Staton were on-hand to congratulate Smith.

While playing at Independence High School, Smith provided key defensive help in the post against some of Charlotte’s top players and has increasingly contributed on offense during her tenure with the varsity squad. She is currently a leading rebounder and scorer on her AAU team as well. “Taylor’s height and mobility will be great assets to our basketball team. Her fundamental shooting and footwork will make her difficult for true posts to handle in the open court. Her tenacity on defense will serve us well down low,” said Coach Audas. Audas commented that Smith’s positive attitude and performance in the classroom were also attractive qualities. “Those are the kind of intangibles you hope to have in all your athletes,” said Audas. Smith is eager to begin her athletic career at Columbia College and plans to major in chemistry.
