Koalas Win on Buzzer Beater

COLUMBIA, S.C. - The Fighting Koalas beat the Warner University Royals this afternoon in a dramatic finish 65-63.  Columbia College struggled with foul trouble early in the first half, but held strong going into halftime down by 4 points. The Fighting Koalas started the second half with hot shooting and took an 8 point advantage over the Royals 38-30.  Columbia looked to expand the lead, but the Royals fought their way back into the game behind Ivana Soberal’s game high 21 points. Tied 63-63 with less than 5 seconds on the clock, senior Natasha Blackmore made the winning jump shot to secure the win.

Columbia College finished with three players scoring in double digits; Krystle Morrissette (13), Krystal Remigio (11), and LaPorcha Williams (10).  Blackmore finished with 9 points, but none more exciting than her 15 foot game winner.

Coach Maria Audas commented on the game, "I'm extremely proud of the girls and how they worked together for this win. They are constantly working hard and it paid off today." The Fighting Koalas are now 4-4 overall and look to continue their winning streak next week on the road against Montreat College.
