Basketball Finishes the Week 0-2
COLUMBIA, S.C.-The Columbia College basketball finished the week 0-2 at home. The Fighting Koalas struggled offensively against two conference opponents: Shorter University and nationally ranked Southern Poly. Thursday’s game against Shorter proved difficult for Columbia’s solid perimeter shot only making 3 of 19 attempts. Senior, LaPorsha Williams put up another impressive 16 points on 6 of 14 from the floor and 3 for 3 from the free throw line. Columbia College fought back in the second half holding Shorter University to only 21 points but couldn’t pull out the win with a final score of 48-71.
The Fighting Koalas went head to head against nationally ranked Southern Polytechnic today in the Godbold Center on Columbia College’s campus. Columbia had an early 5-4 lead on the Lady Hornets who seemed shaky defensively from the start of the game. The Fighting Koalas were within 1 point 8 minutes into the first half before Southern Poly went on an 8-0 run to gain control of the half. Columbia struggled from the free throw line making only 5 of 19 and gave the Lady Hornets 11 points off of turnovers. Again, Senior, LaPorsha Williams was the only member of the Fighting Koalas to reach double digits in points on 5 of 6 field goal attempts, 3 for 5 from the free throw line, and 2 of 9 from behind the arc. Columbia went on to lose to Southern Poly-48-75.
