Columbia Defeats Montreat in AAC Battle

COLUMBIA, S.C. - The Columbia College Basketball team defeated the Montreat Lady Cavaliers tonight in a thrilling AAC Battle. The Fighting Koalas came out on top with seconds to go in the second half grabbing their 4th conference win 63-60.

The pace of the game from the tip off was fast and furious as Columbia and Montreat stayed tight through out the first half. Top scorers for Columbia include freshman, Shay King-Dunson. Dunson put up 10 rebounds and 8 points. Stand out performances came from senior captain, Krystal Morissette and junior guard, Kirby Norris. Coming off of posting 24 points against St. Andrews, Norris led her team to back to back wins with 14 points on the night. Morissette, had a impressive second half performance and was Columbia's leading scorer on the night.

The second half was just as exciting as the first with Montreat tieing up the game with a minute left. Alexandira Gellman was the Lady Cavaliers leading scorer. Gellman played a great game ending the night with a double-double and posted 18 rebounds and 15 points.

The win pushes Columbia to 4-6 in the conference and 7-15 overall. The Fighting Koalas travel to Dayton, TN to face Bryan College on Saturday.
