Koalas Lose Lead in 4th Quarter

After last nights game the Koalas fall to a record of 4-5. In order to make the post season tournament the team must be one of the top 8 teams in the conference and are currently in 10th. The Knights of St. Andrews University held a record of 2-6 before they took the floor against the Koalas. What appeared to be an easy win on paper, turned out to be a battle that would go down to the wire. In this game there were 10 lead changes, and with that the Koalas allowed the Knights to stick around long enough to take over the lead in the 4th quater. With 9 minutes left, after gaining a 9 point lead which was the largest of the night, the Koalas were not able to haul in a few key rebounds or knock down some clutch freethrows as time expired. It also did not help the team allowing Sophomore Morgan Perkins of St. Andrews to score 31 points, which is the highest any opponent has scored against the Koalas this year.  The game ended with a score of 85-80.

Leading the team once again was Sophomore Denijah Johnson who was able to drop 15 points (6 of 6 from the freethrow line) and collect 8 rebounds, 2 shy of recording her second double-double of the year. Along with Johnson, was Junior Jenesai Mohammed who also had 15 points and 5 rebounds. Rounding out the top scorers was Junior Victoria Williams with 14 point and 6 steals and Senior Alana Weyer with 10 points who started her first game of the season for injured Junior Morgan Varn.

Other contributors were Woodard, Rappley, Sherrill, and Hawes.

Saturday's game will be away at Milliigan with a tip-off time of 2 pm. The Koalas have to come out fast, focused and determined if they want to pull off an upset victory over the #2 team in the conference.
