Soccer Splits in Opening Weekend

BECKLEY, WV - The young Columbia College soccer team began their season this past Friday, August 27th against Mountain State University.  Columbia College kept the Mountain State Cougars at bay during the first half with an impressive performance from the Columbia College defense, only letting 4 shots on Goal the entire match. Freshman Jessica Martinez led the Fighting Koalas' offense with 6 shots on goal and 2 goals scored. The end result was a 2-0 win over the Cougars.

Columbia College finished the weekend at Milligan College to take on the Lady Buffs. The Fighting Koalas struggled against Milligan’s Rachel Martin. Martin led the Lady Buffs with 2 goals. The koalas fell short losing 3-0 to the Lady Buffs. Head Coach Josh Kiper is proud of his team after opening weekend stating, “This is always a very exciting time of the year.  We have a great core of returning players and have added a lot to our team with our incoming freshmen and transfers.  The girls have worked very hard on the field both for the coaching staff and for each other.  They have done everything we have asked of them.  That attitude, that collective work ethic will be rewarded.”
