Soccer Finishes Season as Runner-Up

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Fighting Koalas closed the 2011 soccer season as the AAC Tournament Runner-Up this Saturday at Reinhardt. Columbia who was the no. 6 seed upset Milligan in the first round of the tournament to advance to the semi-final match up against the Bryan College Lyons.

Columbia defeated the no. 7 seed Lyons 1-0 with freshman, Ashley Forehand scoring the winning goal to push the Fighting Koalas to a Championship berth to face the Lady Eagles of Reinhardt. Reinhardt finished 7-0 in regular season and went onto be named the conference tournament champions with a 4-0 win over Columbia.

The Fighting Koalas finished the season at 9-7-5 and received 9 awards from the AAC. Clare Williamson who led the conference in assists was named 1^st team All Conference. Jessica Martinez and Heather Moore netted 2^nd and 3^rd team honors. All- Academic Members from Columbia include: Melissa Cannavo, Jessica Martinez, Heather Moore, Kimmy Stempert, Clare Williamson, Taylor Willis.
