Soccer adds transfer AJ Gilmore for 2018 Class

Columbia College Soccer Head Coach Robert Hunter has announced sophomore transfer AJ Gilmore as the fifth signing for the 2018 Koalas soccer class.

AJ comes to Columbia College from Spartanburg Methodist College, where she played for Head Coach Dan Kenneally for two seasons. She has already enrolled at Columbia College for the spring semester and will have two seasons of eligibility remaining to play for the Koalas.

Gilmore had a successful career at SMC, where she was twice named First-Team All-Region NJCAA as a defender.  In 2017, the Pioneers were 14-4 overall, with Gilmore leading a back line which was second in the nation in shutouts.  She also chipped in with 3 goals for the season, as a continuous threat from set pieces.

Prior to SMC, AJ played high school soccer at Brookland-Cayce High School, where in 2016 she was selected to the most elite All-Star game that South Carolina High School Soccer sponsors, the Clash of the Carolinas.  She played club soccer for Congaree Rapid Soccer Club in addition to her high school playing experience.

Coach Hunter added about AJ, "AJ is a player we have been after for a number of years here at CC. She was highly touted coming out of high school, and with two years of collegiate playing experience, we are looking forward to having AJ as a Koala.  She will bring solidity along the back line, as well as being dangerous going forward on corners and free kicks, and we are excited to see what she is able to add to our squad."
