Tennis Finishes Season

Demorest, GA - The Columbia College tennis team went 1-1 on the weekend to close out the 2010-2011 season. The Fighting Koalas faced Piedmont College and dominated the match with a winning performance closing the match 8-1. Columbia was impressive in the doubles competition winning in each position taking the lead 3-0.

Abbagayle Stevenson defeated Piedmont's Lauren Hodges at the No.3 singles position in a great match ending in a tie break in which Stevenson pulled away to win 10-7. The Fighting Koalas' Lilit Martirosyan and Danielle Cupid both had a great showing winning their singles matches 6-1, 6-0 and 6-0, 7-5.

Saturday, April 16th proved a struggle for Columbia College losing in a heartbreaker to Olglethorpe University.  A battle right from the start, Oglethorpe opened up the match with two doubles wins at the No. 1 and No. 2 positions. The Fighting Koalas struggled in the singles competition losing to the Lady Netters 4-5.

The Fighting Koalas finish the season with an overall record of 4-11. Coach Lindsey Hughes is proud of the season but is looking to next year adding, "I'm proud of the way we finished this weekend. Next year will be excited to see what competition the AAC conference has to offer."
