Volleyball Announces 2010 Signees
COLUMBIA, S.C. - The Columbia College volleyball program announced the signing of three players for next season’s team. Jacqui Anderson of Brea, CA, Shelby Foster of Graniteville, SC and Lauren Sorrells of Sumter, SC will compete for the Fighting Koalas in the fall.
Jacqui Anderson, a setter from Brea Olinda High School, was a 1st team All-Century league performer her senior season. This past club season she played for the Saddleback Valley Volleyball Club 18 – Ki team that finished 7th at the 2010 Volleyball Festival in Phoenix, AZ. Anderson will major in early childhood education. Head coach Brian Solomon said, “Jacqui is a great person to have joining our program. She has been successful at a very high level in club, which will help her make the transition to college and she is a fun person to be around.”
Shelby Foster is a 5-11 middle blocker from Midland Valley High School. Foster, an all-region player, is no stranger to coach Solomon, who coached her during the club season with Magnum Volleyball Club based out of Columbia, SC. Coach Solomon said, “Shelby has great length and vision for the game. Her blocking will definitely be an asset.” Foster will major in journalism at Columbia College.
Lauren Sorrells comes to Columbia College from Sumter High School where she was a right side hitter. Sorrells will learn several roles, competing on the right side and as a defensive specialist. Another education major, Lauren plans to major in middle education with a math certification.
The 2010 recruiting class will join 12 returners from last year’s team that finished 24-9 overall. Coach Solomon commented, “We have added three quality individuals who are all a great fit for Columbia College. We have added depth with quality players who will help us become more competitive in the SSAC.” The Koalas’ volleyball team will open the season at home against Johnson and Wales University on August 28th, at 2:00pm.
