Columbia Honors Seniors After Grabbing 9th Conference Win
COLUMBIA, S.C. - The Fighting Koalas grabbed their 9th conference win today against Virginia Intermont. Columbia moved to 19-9 on the year and 9-4 in conference play. After the vicotry Columbia College Athletics honored this year's senior class: Rachael Steiner, Crystal Garza, Jen Monroe, Ashley Hasty, and Erica Allman.
Rachael came to Columbia in 2008 from Fort Mill High School and competed for The Fighting Koalas for three seasons. While at Columbia Rachael tallied 373 kills and 136 blocks. In 2010 Steiner had a stellar season and earned a spot on Queens All-Tournament team. Steiner plans on graduating in 2012 with a degree in Speech Language Pathlogy.
Crystal Garza transfered to Columbia College in the spring of 2009. Garza has been apart of the Fighting Koalas' volleyball program for three seasons and has tallied 598 digs, 80 aces, and has served as one of this year's co-captains. Garza plans to graduate this summer and pursue a career in graphic design.
Jen Monroe came to Columbia College in 2008 from Spring Valley High School. Monroe has competed for The Fighting Koalas as a middle hitter for four seasons. Monroe currently stands at 721 kills, 184 blocks, and 162 digs. In 2009 Monroe was named to SSAC's 2nd team and plans on graduating in May with a degree in Psychology
Ashley Hasty came to Columbia from Lugoff High School in 2008 and has compteted for The Fighting Koalas for four seasons. Hasty has tallied 209 kils and 247 digs. In 2009 Hasty was named to the SSAC Champions of Character Team as well as the conference All-Academic Team. In 2010 Hasty was named as an NAIA Scholar-Athlete. She plans to graduate this May with a degree in Education.
Erica Allman came to Columbia College in 2008 from North Myrtle Beach High School. Allman holds the school record for most digs in a single match with 51 digs. Allman currently stands at 1509 digs and 131 aces. In 2009 Allman was named to SSAC's 2nd team and Columbia College's Most Improved on the season. In 2010 Allman was honored again by the SSAC and named to the All-East Division team and is the only Libero to have recieved AAC Player of the Week honors. Allman plans on graduating in December 2012 with a degree in Education.
