Koalas Open Season with Split at Faulkner Invitational

Koalas Open Season with Split at Faulkner Invitational

On Friday, the Koalas opened with a 3-0 loss to Bethel University (TN) (21-25, 20-25, 15-25)

Columbia College started the match with an early lead but would fail to capitalize and drop all three sets.  Season opening nerves and unforced errors separated Columbia College from Bethel halting the momentum of the Koalas.

The team rebounded well Friday evening with their first win of the season (3-0) against Martin Methodist.  The team produced much more positive results from and attacking stand point (set scores 25-21, 25-16, 31-29).

Saturday, didn't start off as the Koalas would have liked with a loss (0-3) to Cumberland University (16-25, 16-25, 16-25).  Unforced errors plagued the Koalas much like Friday's first match and they were not able to recover.  The second match of the day saw the Koalas ending the tournament on a high note with a straight set victory (3-0) over Brenau University (27-25, 25-23, 25-21).

Head Coach Chuck Mullen stated "It was a great test for us to start the season.  The Faulkner Invitational is a very well run tournament with good competition so it provided us a good early test."

Senior and team captain Kara Anderson (Bristol, TN) made the All-Tournament Team.

Columbia College (2-2 overall, 0-0 AAC) will open at home with AAC opponent St. Andrews (0-0) Tuesday at 6:30 in Godbold Gym.
