Gordish Leads Golf with Medalist Title while Team Finishes 3rd
PAGELAND, S.C. - The Columbia College men's golf team played to a third place finish in a rain-shortened one round tournament in the Trailblazers Collegiate on Monday afternoon. The tournament was held at White Plains GC in Pageland, SC, hosted by Northeastern Technical College.
Freshman Parker Gordish led the Koalas with his first-place individual medalist title shooting a 1-under par 71 with nine-hole scores of 34 in the front and 37 on the back.
The Koalas as a team shot a +23 over 311 score to finish in a tie for third with USC-Union while USC Sumter won the meet at +13 over 301. The Koala B team then finished 6th shooting a +27 over 315 as well.
Joining Gordish on the A team for the scoring was freshman Daniel Freese shooting a 78 after 9-hole scores of 38 and 40 while sophomore Zach Mock was next on CC shooting an 80 (36-44). Sophomore Josh Brown then finished up the A scoring with an 82 (40-42) to place 4th on the A team. Sophomore Jaxon Mock also placed 5th on the A team after shooting an 86 (41-45) while freshman Owen Talbot played as an individual and shot 86 (42-44) as well.
Leading the Koalas on the B team and shooting the fourth-best score of the tournament was sophomore Gavin Ratliff with a 75 posting scores of 37 and 38. Freshman Brandon Russ and junior Ryan Lord then each shot 79s to finish T4th on Columbia's teams overall. Sophomore Christian Hadley then came next shooting an 82 to place 4th on the B team while freshman Jackson Arseneau shot an 83 to place 5th on the B team.
Freshman Tanner Caldwell and sophomore Stephen Swenson also competed as individuals shooting a 98 and 99, respectively.
The golf team is next in action on Oct. 6 and 7 at the Fall Koala Invitational from Deercroft Golf Club in Wagram, NC.
