Golf Finishes 7th at Milligan 36-Hole Shootout
JOHNSON CITY, TN - The Columbia College men's golf team placed 7th out of 11 teams at the Northeast Tennessee Spring Shootout hosted by Milligan University (TN) on Tuesday. The tournament was a 36 hole, one-day event that took place at Johnson City Country Club.
The CC men shot a +26 over 314 in round one Tuesday morning before improving by nine shots in round two on Tuesday afternoon to shoot a +17 over 305 and finish at 43-over 619 overall. Montreat finished 2nd overall followed by Midway (KY) in 3rd, SMC and Milligan in 4th and Div. II UVA-Wise in 6th place. Bluefield (Va.) was then 9th followed by Union (KY) in 10th. Walters State CC (TN) won the tournament at +16 over par.
Freshman Parker Gordish led the Koalas by placing 11th overall out of 60 golfers with a +5 over 149 by shooting rounds of 3-over 75 and 2-over 74 with five birdies in round two. Sophomore Jaxon Mock then finished tied for 18th at 8-over 152 as he shot a 79 in round one and then recorded the best round of any Koala in round two with a +1 over 73, including a -1 under 35 on the back nine holes.
Senior Daniel Freese then fired consecutive rounds of 5-over 77, including a five-birdie first round, to finish at +10 over 154 in 24th place while sophomore Josh Brown placed 43rd at +15 over 159 with rounds of 6-over 78 in the first and 81 in the second. Fellow sophomore Zach Mock then finished tied for 45th at +20 over 164 after shooting rounds of 83 and 81. Freshman Brandon Russ then finished 57th at +28 over 172 with rounds of 83 and 89.
The Koala golfers will next head to the 3-day AAC Tournament in Adairsville, GA from April 20-22 at Barnsley Gardens Resort.
