Groundbreaking Begins on Younts Stadium's New Turf Field
COLUMBIA, S.C. - The Columbia College Athletic Department and Director of Athletics Glen Crawford are pleased to announce that groundbreaking on the brand new turf field being installed at Younts Soccer Stadium has begun in earnest earlier this week.
"We are so excited as groundbreaking has begun on our new turf field," said AD Crawford. "This new field marks a major step forward for Columbia College Athletics. By creating a space where our men's and women's soccer and lacrosse teams can train and compete at the highest level, we're not just building a field—we're building momentum."
"This project reflects our continued commitment to growing strong, unified athletic programs that support all of our student-athletes," continued Crawford. "I want to extend my sincere thanks to Dr. Dozier and the Columbia College Board of Trustees for making this opportunity possible and for their unwavering support of our athletic programs. We continue to be on the rise here at Columbia College."
The artificial turf field will be installed this summer by The Motz Group and be ready to go when the Soccer seasons get underway in late August. The men's and women's soccer programs are led by head coaches Logan Koon and Robert Hunter, respectively.
The engineering and construction teams currently working on the field to transform it are from Woolpert, a civil engineering company that is one of the premier architecture, engineering, and geospatial (AEG) firms.
The inaugural men's and women's lacrosse teams led by head coaches Tom Kinney and Mallory Bahr, respectively, will take to the field in the Spring semester of 2026 to get their seasons rolling.
