Men's Lacrosse Drops First Road Game in Missouri

ST. LOUIS, MO - The Columbia College men's lacrosse team dropped their first-ever road game in their inaugural season falling 18-5 at NAIA foe Missouri Baptist University Saturday evening.

The Koalas (0-2) will next take on Midland University (Neb.) in a neutral-site game in St. Louis on Sunday afternoon at 3:30 pm.

Columbia got on the board first as freshman William Tanks notched his second career goal scoring just 70 seconds into the game. Howver, MBU would score the next four goals to lead 4-1 after the opening quarter. MBU then increased their lead to 7-1 in the second before freshman midfielder Rione Konz scored at the 8:49 mark. Freshman faceoff specialist Kai Correia then scored the 3rd Koala goal at the 5-minute mark to make it 8-3 before the Spartans went on to lead 9-3 at the break.

In the second half, the Koalas stayed in it scoring just under the 13-minute mark as Tanner Kuykendall made it 9-4. Noah Norwood then added the final Columbia goal at the end of the third quarter to get to within seven at 12-5. However, the undermanned Koalas ran out of gas in the fourth as MBU added two quick goals to go back up by nine at 14-5. The Spartans would then add four more goals to grab the win and improve to 1-1.

Norwood led with 10 shots while Konz, Correia, and Peyton Brand each recorded four ground balls apiece. Correia and defender Gavin Hunt each caused two MBU turnovers apiece as well. Senior Goalie Fin Landi then made 14 saves on 31 shots on goal while fellow goalie Joey Stubenvoll also allowed one goal as MBU outshot the Koalas 53-28.
