Koala Men Drop AAC Opener on the Road in Savannah

SAVANNAH, Ga. - The Columbia College men's lacrosse team was back on the field Saturday after two weeks off battling conference foe, 6th ranked SCAD-Savannah but fell 24-6 on the road.

In the Koalas' first-ever AAC game, they managed just two goals in the opening quarter as SCAD raced out to a 6-2 lead. CC received goals from junior midfielder Rione Konz, off an assist from freshman attacker Tanner Kuykendall, and freshman attacker Noah Norwood in the quarter. In the 2nd, SCAD added three more goals before freshman midfielder William Tanks added the third Koala goal as CC went into the break down 9-3.

SCAD, however, got off to another quick start to begin the third quarter scoring 7 straight goals to go up 16-3 with 3 minutes to play in the period. Tanks added his second goal of the game with 90 seconds to play before Savannah added two more to lead 18-4 after three.

In the fourth quarter, Norwood scored his second goal of the game to lead off the fourth before fellow freshman Gavin Gordon added the final goal of the period unassisted.

Senior goalie Fin Landi made 11 saves on 29 shots through three quarters while freshman goalie Joey Stubenvoll allowed six goals with just one save in his 15 minutes. Sophomore defender Peyton Brand led in ground balls with five along with 3 caused turnovers while Gordon had three ground balls and 3 shots on goal. Norwood led in shots with six and face offs won with three.

SCAD improves to 8-1 on the season and 1-0 in the conference while the Koalas fell to 1-5 and 0-1 in the AAC.

Columbia will return to action next week when they head south to Florida to battle #2 Keiser and #9 Webber on Thursday and Friday beginning at 12 noon.
