Men's Soccer Loses Lead Late, Falls to RU

COLUMBIA, S.C. - The Columbia College men's soccer team got off to a strong start leading 2-1 but gave up two late second half goals to fall 4-2 at home Saturday to conference foe Reinhardt University.

The Koalas got off to a fast start scoring in the 4th minute of play as senior midfielder Dan Stryffeler scored off an assist from freshman defender Andrew Wilson. However, the Eagles struck right back three minutes later to tie the match at one. Columbia then took their second lead as senor forward Alex Koye scored his first goal of the season in the 31st minute of action to put CC up 2-1. 

RU then came back scoring another tying goal in the 42nd minute to go into the break all tied at 2 apiece while CC led the shot count 6-4.

In the second half, RU took their first lead of the game 11 minutes into the half scoring in the 56th minute to lead 3-2. Wilson then tried to tie the match back up later in the half, but his shot hit the cross bar. Unfortunately, Reinhardt closed out the game with an insurance goal in the 83rd minute to take the game 4-2. Columbia still outshot the Eagles 11-5 in the half and 17-9 overall while Gabriel Guadagno led the team with four total shots.

The men fell to 1-4-2 on the season and 0-3 in the AAC while RU improves to 3-3-1 and 2-1 in the league. The Koalas will next return to action on Wednesday on the road in Georgia to battle Truett McConnell at 4:00 PM.
