COLUMBIA, S.C. - The Columbia College men's soccer team remained unbeaten as they stunned AAC foe Tennessee Wesleyan 2-1 on a late second half goal to open conference play at home Saturday afternoon.
The Koalas scored their opening goal on a misplay from the TWU keeper that saw freshman forward Jacob Madeiros at the right place at the right time to tap in the goal in the 49th minute to give CC the 1-0 advantage early in the second half and break the scoreless tie.
TWU then struck right back taking advantage of a Koala foul inside the box to knot the game at one apiece scoring on a penalty kick in the 54th minute.
The Koalas went on to score the game-winning goal in the 80th minute as sophomore midfielder Angel Andreucetti knocked it in the net off an assist from freshman forward Matthias Dennis to give CC the 2-1 lead.
Senior keeper Mathias Gravesen made one save on two shots on goal including a big save in the final minutes to clinch the win for the Koalas. Columbia outshot the Bulldogs 5-2 in the first half and then 7-3 in the second half to win the shot count 12-5.
The Koalas, now 2-0, will next continue AAC conference play on Wednesday afternoon at 4:00 pm hosting Truett McConnell.
