Men's Soccer Overcomes Slow Start to Rout Carolina Christian

COLUMBIA, S.C. - The Columbia College men's soccer team overcame a slow start and a scoreless first half by exploding for 7 goals in the second half en route to a 7-0 win over Carolina Christian College at home Wednesday evening.

Columbia outshot the Centurions 18-0 in the first half, but had two goals waved off due to offsides while the Carolina goalie made 13 saves overall.

However, Columbia finally got to them in the second half as they began to tire out, scoring the opener from freshman forward Matthias Dennis in the 48th minute off an assist from fellow freshman forward Malik Kimble. Freshman Defender Andrew Smith then scored off a corner kick from junior forward Natneal Micheal in the 67th minute to put the Koalas up 2-0.

Then in the span of a minute in the 70th, Columbia received goals from freshman striker Jacob Madeiros off an assist from Aedan Bowers while Nati Micheal scored courtesy of an assist from Madeiros to put CC up 4-0. Junior forward Aedan Bowers then scored the 5th goal in the 76th minute from freshman midfielder Nico Parra before freshman forward Daniel Razin got one unassisted in the 86th minute. Madeiros then added a final goal again in the 89th minute for the 7th goal.

Columbia outshot Carolina 38-0 overall in the dominating display. 

The Koalas improve to 3-3-1 on the year and will next step back into conference play when they host Union Commonwealth on Sunday at 1:30 pm for the Koala Pantry Food Drive game. Bring two pantry items to receive half off price of admission.
