COLUMBIA, S.C. - The Columbia College men's soccer team pulled off a huge 0-0 draw against first place AAC foe Union Commonwealth (Ky.) on Sunday afternoon from Younts Field on Koala Pantry Food Drive Day.
UC got off two early chances in the first half, while the Bulldogs added another close attempt on a corner kick, but the Columbia defense was able to keep them from breaking through. CC's defense held firm, keeping UC off the board as the Bulldogs only managed a 3-2 shot count in the opening period.
Both sides managed four shots in the second half, with junior forward Natneal Micheal delivering a terrific shot late in the second, but it just went wide while sophomore midfielder Noah Poungthana took two quality shots with both going high.
Union finished with just a slim 7-6 shot advantage overall. Each team placed two shots on frame, as the Koala back line held tight and denied Union throughout the 90 minutes. Even as Union created steady pressure in the attack, most of their chances were snuffed out by the Koalas.
Goalkeepers Mathias Gravesen and Nathan Huff combined for two saves on just two shots on goal as they each played 45 minutes.
The Koalas are now 3-3-2 overall and 1-2-2 in the conference while Union goes to 5-2-2 and 4-0-2 in the AAC.
Columbia will next head to the mountains of North Carolina to battle Montreat College on Wednesday at 5 PM in AAC action.
