Men's Swimming Picks up First Win of Season at Greensboro
GREENSBORO, N.C. - The Columbia College men's swim team won their first meet of the season on Saturday defeating Div. III Greensboro College 143-22 but falling to Randolph College (Va.) 163-64 at the Greensboro College tri-meet in NC.
The Koalas were led by freshman Connor Lommerse as he won the 100-yard Backstroke in a time of 57.83 seconds while finishing 3rd out of five in the 50-yard Freestyle in 26.5 seconds.
In the 200-yard Medley Relay, the Koalas finished 3rd in 1:54.5 led by the team of Lommerse, freshman Za'Shawn Barr, freshman Deon Ellisor, and senior Stefan Merkel. Freshman Wyatt Krashner finished 2nd in the 1000 yard Freestyle in 12:31 while Merkel was 2nd in the 200 Freestyle in 2:13.44. Finishing 3rd in the 200 Free was Jamal Johnson in 2:23 as well while Johnson was also 2nd in the 500 yard Freestyle in 6:44.5.
Sophomore Thomas Remely then placed 4th in the 100 Breaststroke in 1:20 while freshman teammate Greyson Bryan was 5th in 1:23. Bryan was also 4th in the 50 Free in a time of 28.97 seconds while Barr placed 3rd in the 200 yard IM in 2:21.
Ellisor led the team in the 100-Freestyle touching the wall in 56 seconds to place 2nd while Merkel was 3rd in 59.48 seconds. Barr then placed 2nd in the 200 Backstroke in 2:20 while Remely was 3rd in the 200 Breast in 3:03. Ellisor was again runner-up in the 100 Butterfly in a time of 1:05.58 while Krashner was right behind in 3rd in 1:05.83.
Finally, in the 200 Free Relay, the team of Ellisor, Merkel, Barr, and Lommerse finished 2nd out of 4 teams in a time of 1:43.
The swim team will next be in the pool on Friday as they compete in the VMI Midseason Invitational in Cary, NC from Nov. 14-16.
