Men's Indoor Track & Field Finishes 8th at VA Holiday Open/ Takes 1st in Relay
WINCHESTER, Va. - The Columbia College men's indoor track and field team opened their season on Sunday competing in the D3 Shenandoah Univ. Holiday Open held in northern Virginia. The Koalas came away with a 8th place finish and just a point shy of coming in a three-way tie for 6th out of 11 teams in the meet. McDaniel College (MD) won the meet followed by Roanoke (VA), Dickinson (PA), Washington & Lee (VA) and Randolph College (VA) to round out the top five teams.
The Koala's 4x400 meter relay team brought home a title to lead CC as the team of junior Caleb Bailey, sophomore Kimarje White, senior Xavier Linen, and sophomore Willy Calcano took first place in a time of 3:27.6 to outdistance runner-up Dickinson by 0.7 seconds. Columbia's B team also had a good finish coming in a tie for 7th out of 19 teams with a time of 3:37. That all-freshman team consisted of Dominick Young, Jayden Young, Ryan Flowers, and Tristen Patterson.
Themen also ran a terrific 200 meter dash as well as Linen led the way with his 3rd place finish while Bradley Tilby also placed in the top 10 coming in 7th. Columbia put five sprinters in the top 13 and 8 in the top 30 of the 47-man field. Tilby also ran well in the 60 meter dash placing 4th in qualifying with a time just over 7 seconds before finishing 6th in the finals.
The indoor men are next competing January 12 at another Shenandoah Invitational in Virginia.
