Men's T&F Competes at High Point Meet
HIGH POINT, N.C. - The Columbia College men's track and field team competed at the mostly NCAA Div. I VertKlasse Meeting at D-1 High Point University in North Carolina over the weekend.
In the non-scored meet, the men were led by the 4x400m Relay team (junior Caleb Bailey, freshman Dominick Young, Kimarje White, Ashton Pouncie) that placed 7th overall out of 17 schools and 2nd among D-2/3 schools with a time of 3:17.6 for their season-best result. Columbia's B relay team also placed 14th in 3:27.
During the 5K race walk on Saturday, senior indoor All-American Dorde Racic took first place winning the event in a school-record time of 22:10 to outscore his competition by over 7 minutes.
During the 400m race on Friday afternoon, the Koalas were led by a 26th place finish from freshman A. Pouncie who ran a time of 50.9 seconds to set a personal best and win his heat while senior Xavier Linen finished 36th in 51.4 seconds. Also racing was freshman Ryan Flowers coming in 40th out of 63 in 51.6 seconds while C. Bailey was 42nd in 51.8 seconds.
Later on Friday afternoon, sophomore K. White competed in the 400m Hurdles placing 11th out of 33 in 57.7 seconds while Jayden Young tied for 20th in 1:01 for his personal-best time.
In the Field events on Friday, freshman Jayden Young finished 25th overall out of 35 competitors (9th among D-2/3) in the Long Jump with a mark of 6.3 meters (20.5 ft) while sophomore Jarek Asencio was 18th of 26 (3rd among D-2/3) in the Javelin Throw with a mark of 46.38 meters (152 ft).
On Saturday morning in the Triple Jump, the Koalas were led by sophomore Tyler Dixon, who finished 21st (8th in D2) with a jump of 12.4 meters (40.5 ft). Then in the men's Discus Throw on Saturday, senior Daylon McDonald led the way placing 26th of 42 with a throw of 40.9 meters (134 ft) while sophomore teammate Jonathan Davis placed 32nd at 40.2 meters. During the Shot Put on Saturday, Columbia sophomore Sam Ah Ping finished 26th of 40 with a throw of 12.5 meters (41 ft) while J. Davis was 37th at 10.92 meters.
During the men's 5K distance run on Saturday evening, junior Kristian Sanchez finished 40th with a time of 18:28. Sanchez also placed 87th in the 1500m run on Friday with a time of 4:35 for his personal-best time.
In the 4x100m Relay, the men consisting of Willy Calcano, Bradley Tilby, Tristen Patterson, and D. Young, finished 2nd in their heat and 12th overall out of 17 teams with a time of 42.25 seconds to come in 6th among D-2 and D-3 teams.
The track and field teams will next be competing on Saturday at the UNC-Asheville Invite.
