Columbia College Sweeps Coker behind Walker and Pruitt
Columbia College softball took two wins from Coker College Cobras Sunday behind all-star performances from sophomore pitcher Erin Walker and senior second baseman Kelsey Pruitt. In game one, Walker threw an amazing eight strikeouts while allowing only one run to get her second win of the year with the Koalas winning 3-1. Pruitt was busy in game one, collecting three extra–base hits. She tripled in the fifth inning and doubled in the first and seventh innings. Pruitt was perfect at the plate in both games on Sunday, going 7-7 and being hit by a pitch.
The Fighting Koalas took game two from the Cobras with a 13-5 win. Senior pitcher Brittany Barr got her first win of the year while fellow Senior Lindsey Knipp got her first save of the year. The sixth inning was key for Columbia College. They scored five runs on an RBI double by Junior Breanne Shearin, an RBI single by sophomore Ashley Cox, a two run single by Junior Sam Sgroi, and an RBI single by Pruitt. Shearin and Pruitt, who combined for 10 hits and three RBI, sparked Columbia College to the eight run victory. The Fighting Koalas progress to a 4-0 record and face Division I South Carolina State on Thursday in Orangeburg, SC.
