COLUMBIA, SC - The Columbia College softball team went on to sweep nearby conference foe St. Andrews University at home on Thursday to clinch their spot in the AAC tournament at the end of the month. CC shut out the Knights 4-0 in game one on senior pitcher Addison Warner's 2-hit shutout before the Koalas rolled to a 6-1 win in game two.
The 13 conference wins move CC into 8th place in the AAC Standings as Columbia has now completed their conference schedule at 13-15.
The Koalas (18-26) will now celebrate Senior Day on Saturday at 1:00 pm when they host Paine College (Ga.), an NCCAA team, in a non-conference doubleheader.
Warner (10-9) took a no-hitter into the 7th inning, but unfortunately gave up two hits in the frame. However, she still shut down the Knights holding them to zero runs on 2 hits while walking three and striking out six to get her 10th win. She also picked up her 99th strikeout of the season and will look for #100 on Saturday.
CC got out to a quick 2-0 lead in the first inning as junior DH Ally Boyd notched an RBI double while freshman catcher Reagan Kelly recorded a sacrifice fly. Scoring runs and also recording hits in the inning were infielders Maggie Hinz and senior Aliyah Crawley.
Sophomore outfielder Brooke Farrell then notched her first career home run in the 2nd inning bringing home freshman OF Madison Cheek to plate CC to a 4-0 lead.
In game two, Columbia was led by pitchers Boyd and reliever Bailey Strickland as they combined to allow just one run on one hit in 7 innings. Boyd (8-12) threw 5 innings walking three and striking out two while allowing one unearned run. Strickland finished the win throwing two perfect innings and striking out three.
The Koalas tallied 9 hits in the win led by Boyd's two doubles that drove in three runs. Freshman 3B Elaina Seymour also recorded an RBI single in the first inning while Kelly notched an RBI double in the 5th inning. Middle infielders Ashlynn Wolff and Hinz also each recorded two hits apiece as well.
