Koala Softball Crushes PSU-Beaver and Shuts Out Altoona

LITTLE RIVER, S.C. - The Columbia College Softball team dominated their games on day three of the Fastpitch Dreams Myrtle Beach Classic on Saturday defeating PSU-Altoona 3-0 and winning big over PSU-Beaver 11-1 on Saturday at North Myrtle Beach.

An inside-the-park home run by junior 2B Joni Littlejohn put the Koalas on the board in the bottom of the first. A triple by junior SS Ashlynn Wolff, and a passed ball helped Columbia extend their early lead in the second.

Columbia scored five runs on three hits in the bottom of the fourth inning. Junior DH Karmen Christie tripled, scoring three runs, an error scored one run, while senior outfielder Malaurie Martin singled, scoring one run.

Senior pitcher Amanda Lohrey earned the win for Columbia College. The righty allowed six hits and one run over five innings, striking out four and walking one. 

Littlejohn, Wolff, Christie, sophomore 3B Elaina Seymour, freshman CF Krislyn Wilder, Martin, senior DH Ally Boyd, and 1B Ashlyn Blackstone each collected one hit for CC. Christie went 1-for-1 at the plate and led the team with three runs batted in. Columbia had a strong eye at the plate, amassing seven walks for the game. Wilder and senior catcher Jenna Holder led the team with two walks each. 

The Koalas improved to 12-8 on the season and will pick back up in conference play when they return home on Thursday against Union Commonwealth at 2:00 pm. 

Lockner and Lohrey Work Together As Koalas Shut Out PSU-Altoona

Columbia College defeated PSU-Altoona 3-0 on Saturday at North Myrtle Beach as two pitchers combined to throw a shutout with Freshman starter Nealy Lockner going six innings and senior reliever Amanda Lohrey closing out the game.

Columbia got on the board in the bottom of the third inning after Krislyn Wilder doubled down the left field line, and Wolff singled to center field, each scoring one run.

A. Lohrey earned the save for Columbia allowing one hit and zero runs over one inning, striking out one and walking one. Lockner gave up four hits and zero runs over six shutout innings, striking out three and walking one.

K. Wilder set the tone at the top of the lineup, leading the Koalas with two hits and two runs scored. Littlejohn, Wolff, and Wilder each drove in one run for CC. Wilder stole two bases while CC turned one double play in the game.
