Basketball Adds Emiley Masloski For 2014/15
The Columbia College Fighting Koalas welcomed the 1st addition to the 2014-15 basketball team before Saturday’s tip-off. Emiley Masloski signed with Columbia College after her second campus visit, most recently including her family. Masloski will join the Koalas’ next fall from Steubenville High School in Steubenville, Ohio. She is currently the starting point guard for “The Big Red” and looks to bring immediate on-court support as a floor leader.
“Emiley brings with her an exceptional knowledge and instinct for the game as well as mature, vocal leadership,” said head coach Maria Chen. “These are two skills necessary not only at the point guard position, but skills we think will most benefit are team moving forward,” Chen concluded.
Additionally, Masloski will bring some impressive offense to the table. The 4-year varsity starter and 3-year captain recently surpassed 1,000 career points, doing so even with absences due to injury. She is just the sixth player in school history to have reached this milestone. Masloski’s balance of outside and inside scoring as well as her consistent free throw shooting make her a great fit for the Koala’s up-tempo, basket-attacking style of play.
Masloski first visited the campus in the fall after several months of conversation with Coach Chen. After being initially impressed with the campus and basketball program, Masloski says she made the second trip with her family to serve as confirmation that she would be a good fit with the program and provide her parents an opportunity to see the school. “I chose Columbia College because I felt right at home. I loved the campus, coaches, team, and the students. It is the perfect fit for me,” commented Masloski.
The Koalas do not graduate anyone this year and look to build on their young squad in 2014-15 with the addition of Masloski. For more information on the basketball program, visit www.gokoalas.com.
