Century for Koalas in victory over Allen Yellow Jackets

The Columbia College basketball team scored a century of points for the first time under Head Coach Maria Chen in their 100-68 victory over Allen University on Tuesday evening at Porter Gymnasium.

Columbia, stepping out of conference play for the first time in more than a month, shot 53% from the floor and outrebounded Allen 54-39 in the contest.

After a blistering start where Columbia opened the game up early into a double digit lead, Azia Gibson asserted her dominance often as part of a superior Koalas paint attack.  Gibson had a typically strong performance overall, going 11 of 14 from the floor as part of a 26 point, 14 rebound performance.

Columbia led 52-24 at halftime, and only continued to maintain their lead as the second half ebbed on.  With less than 30 seconds remaining in the game, Kennyatta Gilchrist made the second of a pair of bonus free throws to score the Fighting Koalas 100th point and make history for Chen.

Others with strong performances including BriAna Johnson, who was 13/17 from the line and had 19 points and 6 assists, as well as Anna Outlaw, who was 2 for 4 from downtown and scored 10 points in only 15 minutes of action.

Kennyatta Gilchrist had 7 points and 8 rebounds, Taylor Smith had 9 points and 7 rebounds, and Shahirah King-Dunson added 9 points and 6 rebounds.
