Lady Koalas Roll Past Bluefield

COLUMBIA, SC - The Columbia College women's basketball team rolled to a 76-58 victory over Bluefield University (Va.) on Saturday from the Godbold Center.

Junior guard Anaya Muhammad led the Koalas with a team-high 21 points on an efficient 10 of 13 from the floor with 2 steals and a block while freshman forward Natalie Pitts posted a double-digit game of 14 points with 9 rebounds and a steal. 

CC led 21-16 after the first quarter and outscored the Rams 19-14 in the second quarter to lead 40-30 at the break. Columbia stepped up their defense in the third quarter holding BU to just nine points in a 17-9 quarter while outscoring them 36-28 in the half for the 18-point win.

Columbia shot 48.5% from the floor and 35 percent from three while out-rebounding the Rams 43-35. Bluefield shot 28.5% overall and only 20 percent from three.

Guards Lauren Wearbon and Makiah Thompson each scored nine points apiece while Thompson added a season-high 7 assists and six rebounds. Wearbon also had 7 rebounds, two assists, three steals and a block. Freshman guard Krislyn Wilder played her season high in minutes and scored six points with six assists and four steals while fellow guard, senior Tameah Gaddis also added 8 points. 

The Koalas improve to 4-4 in the conference and 7-7 overall while Bluefield drops to 0-13 and 0-8 in the AAC.

Columbia remains home to host Paine College in non-conference action on Wednesday at 5:30 pm.
