DAYTON, TN - The Columbia College women's basketball team faced the top team in the AAC, Bryan College, on the road Friday in the Tennessee mountains but could not come out with a win falling 85-44.
The ladies competed hard in the first quarter going toe-to-toe with the Lions trailing just 18-17. However, Bryan poured it on in the second quarter outscoring the Koalas 38-4 to take a big halftime lead.
In the second half, the Koalas only lost by a score of 29-23 and outscored the Lions 16-12 in the fourth. Columbia struggled shooting the ball going just 23.5% overall and 18 percent from three and 62% from the free throw line (18 of 29).
Columbia also forced 20 Bryan turnovers while pulling down 43 rebounds and blocking four shots. Freshman guard Krislyn Wilder led CC with 10 points and two 3-pointers along with 2 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals while junior guard Anaya Muhammad totaled six points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals. Senior forward Courtney McClaney also tallied 5 points and 9 rebounds. Junior guard Lauren Wearbon also recorded five points and 3 steals.
The Koalas fall to 10-12 overall and 6-8 in the conference while Bryan improved to 17-5 overall and 14-1 in the AAC.
The Koalas next return to action on Wednesday on the road at Brenau University in north Georgia at 5:30 pm.
