Koala Women Run Past Union on Senior Day

COLUMBIA, S.C. - The Columbia College women's basketball team held off Union Commonwealth University (Ky.) 68-54 on Senior Day Saturday afternoon.

The Koalas outscored the Bulldogs in each quarter including 38-30 in the second half and 30-24 in the first half. Columbia was led by 16 points from sophomore point guard Makiah Thompson while she also added five steals, four assists, and 3 rebounds. Junior guard Lauren Wearbon also recorded a solid game scoring 12 points on 5 of 7 shooting with a team-best 8 rebounds and two steals. 

Junior guard Anaya Muhammad posted 9 points, 4 assists and a block as well while fellow junior guard Tysonia Lowe added 7 points and 4 rebounds. Senior forward De'Asia Feaster posted 5 points and 7 rebounds as well while senior guard Tameah Gaddis registered four points and four rebounds with 3 assists and a steal.

Columbia also outrebounded UC by a wide margin, 47-30 while making 11 more free throws than the Bulldogs but each team struggled shooting the ball from deep with the teams combining for just 7 made threes.

CC improves to 12-14 overall and 8-10 in the conference with their second straight win while UC drops to 6-17 overall and 5-11 in the AAC.

Columbia will next remain home to host rival CIU in their home finale on Wednesday evening at 5:00 pm.
