Lady Koalas Drop AAC Opener
COLUMBIA, S.C. - The Columbia College women's lacrosse team dropped their conference opener on Wednesday falling 24-0 to Georgetown College (KY) from Younts Stadium in Columbia.
Georgetown, who was receiving votes in the latest top 10 NAIA poll, got off to a fast start scoring four goals within the first four minutes before going up 9-0 and forcing a Koala timeout. The Tigers then added three more goals in the first and 7 more in the second quarter against the undermanned Koalas to lead 19-0 at the break.
Columbia then held GC to just 5 goals in the second half, but could not find their offensive rhythm playing a woman down for the entire 60 minutes due to injuries.
Freshman Goalie Lillianna Imhof made 7 saves on 31 shots on goal while fellow freshman attacker Taylor Gipson led with 3 shots on goal, a ground ball and two draw control wins. Senior attackers Cecilia Burke and Taylor Perry also attempted shots on goal with each just missing the goal. Perry also had three draw control wins while Burke won two draws. Junior defender Briana Huff also picked up three ground balls and caused three GC turnovers.
The Koalas fall to 0-7 on the season while GC improved to 2-5. The Ladies will finish off their three-game homestand when they host Div. III Warren Wilson College (N.C.) on Saturday at 5:00 pm on Senior Day.
