Koalas shutout Bulldogs in fourth AAC victory
Younts Stadium, SC - For the second game running, a second half goal by Junior Ruby Hallam off of an assist by Senior Alexis Cesario was all the Columbia College Koalas would need to down an AAC foe in a hard fought battle.
This time, it was on Saturday afternoon, at home, that the Koalas saw off the efforts of the Union College Bulldogs 1-0 to see their AAC record improve to 4-1 and overall record improve to 4-4-2.
Despite outshooting the Bulldogs 26-8 for the game and hitting the woodwork three different times, with 21 minutes remaining on the clock the Koalas and Bulldogs were still knotted at 0-0. Cesario and Hallam, however, combined to break the deadlock, with Cesario streaking down the right and crossing to Hallam for a simple finish to make it 1-0 to Columbia.
The Bulldogs forced the Koalas to endure a few nervy moments towards the end of the game, but ultimately Columbia would run out winners and complete their third shutout of the season and in AAC play. Columbia were led defensively by keepers Katherine Yahnke and Morgan McCray, who both helped record the shutout, while the defense was airtight in front of them with many players combining to shut down the Bulldogs offense.
Columbia plays again on Wednesday at 5PM when they host Emmanuel College in a non-conference matchup.
