Koalas Women’s Soccer Host Brenau in AAC Play-in Game

Columbia, SC – The Columbia College (SC) women's soccer team will begin their quest toward an Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Tournament Championship, Tuesday (Nov. 2) when they host Brenau University in the play-in game in Younts Stadium at 6 pm.

"We are excited to host the play-in game against Brenau, who are a tough team," said head coach Rob Hunter. "We had a good battle with them earlier in the season and expect another one this time." 

Hunter continued, "I am proud of our team for how far we have come this season and for qualifying for the playoffs. We hope to play well in this game and potentially beyond as our season continues."

Columbia College, 10-7, will enter tournament play as the No. 7 seed, and Brenau, who finished the regular season with a 5-8-1 record, has a 5-8-1 record and enters the tournament as the No. 10 seed.

Tuesday's game is the second meeting of the season between Columbia College and Brenau. The Koalas defeated the Golden Tigers 2-1 on Sept. 18 in Gainesville, Ga.

Jordan Myers and Kayann Glass found the back of the net for Columbia College in the win. Theresa Chambers and Madison Stewart each recorded an assist, and Emma Parker was solid in the net, recording 11 saves on 12 shots-on-goal.

The Golden Tigers' lone goal came from Cindy Bonilla.

Myers leads the Koala with 16 goals and six assists for 38 points. 

Including Myers, the Koalas have nine different players who have scored multiple goals during the regular season. Isabella Gurrieri has six; Kianna Dodge has five; Madison Stewart has four, while Theresa Chambers, Kayann Glass, Tianna Roberts, Brianna Sandoval, and Kylie Stewart have two. In addition, Kendall Fields and Brooke Piscitello have one goal apiece.

Bonilla and Camila Penagos lead Brenau offensively with five goals and one assist each for 11 points. Itzel Rivera has also scored multiple goals on the season with two.

The winner of Tuesday's game will advance to the quarterfinal round to face No. 2, Truett McConnell, on Saturday, Nov. 6, in Cleveland, Ga.
